HOW TMM GOT STARTED

Too often individuals perish due to lack of knowledge or access to quality healthcare. Although born and raised in Jamaica for a portion of her childhood life, Janice, Founder and President of TMM, she had never experienced their hospital systems. Hence, being a registered nurse, she was appalled at the care when she had taken her grandmother to a local hospital there. At first Janice considered signing out her grandmother against medical advice (AMA), but she decided to stay and learn more about their healthcare system from both hospital staff and the community members.

Healthcare providers report most of the hospital supplies are donated, including medications. Janice recalled a practicing medical doctor saying to her “I understand if your grandmother was in the states, they would correct her low sodium level in no time, but unfortunately, we just don’t have the same tools. However, if your mother can get the medicine and send it to us, we would be more than happy to use it on her.” Moreover, members of the local community report that most cannot afford to see a healthcare provider and even if one can, the wait time is extremely long.

Following her assessment, Janice made contact with her peers in the United States of America about how they can be of assistance to communities like the one she had experienced with her grandmother. Without hesitation, the group Travelling Medical Missioners (TMM) was formed and managed to make their first appearance back to that same local community in Jamaica in July 2012, rendering preventative health education and health screenings. TMM’s first mission was a blessing to both the receiving and giving party, and they continue to use their efforts to be a blessing to many more communities worldwide.

Unfortunately, many people across America and in other countries are not able to receive adequate medical treatment and are not exposed to medical information that can help save their lives. This area of need may seem minor to many of us separated from such conditions but to many who face illnesses and reside within these conditions it is a severe matter.

TMM is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that addresses this need in underserved communities in America and across the globe by offering free health fairs to provide preventative health education and preventative health care screenings to the local residents. TMM also donates needed medical supplies to the clinics and hospitals who are barely meeting the needs of their patients.

With a donation to Travelling Medical Missioners you will be able to assist TMM with having the necessary supplies in order to host health fairs and send needed medical supplies to clinics and hospitals in need in America and other countries. With your help you would have made a difference for at least one person somewhere across this world.

Will you partner with TMM today? Join hands with TMM as they bridge the gap to better healthcare for all people.
